ACS Summer Information

KINDERGARTEN READINESS

The Let's Get Ready! Guide is intended to provide family-friendly resources on age-appropriate developmental skills, support tips, and at-home activities where adult/child interactions are the central focus. It is not intended to determine if a child “is" or "is not” ready for kindergarten. We encourage you to share this resource with families of rising kindergarten students.

 

SUMMER RESOURCES

 

BEGINNING OF THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR INFORMATION

TEACHER ASSIGNMENTS

Teacher assignments will be sent by email to all currently enrolled families and families that have completed the registration process by Wednesday, August 2 by 5:00 PM.

 

KINDERGARTEN STAGGERED START

ACS Kindergartners will begin the school year with a staggered start and an abbreviated day, so that the students can get accustomed to their new school, teachers, and schedule.

From 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM, a fourth of the students from each class will come to school each day on:

  • Tuesday, August 8

  • Wednesday, August 9

  • Thursday, August 10

  • Friday, August 11

All kindergarteners will have their first FULL day of school on Monday, August 14 from 8:15 AM - 3:15 PM.

**Kindergarten families will receive an email with their student’s assigned day for their staggered start on Wednesday, June 14 by 5:00pm.**


 

OPEN HOUSE & CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Each Grade Level Open House & Curriculum Overview will last for 45 minutes. The dates and times are listed below. The first 15 minutes will be for meeting, greeting, and dropping off supplies, followed by a curriculum overview for 20 minutes, with a time for questions and answers for 10 minutes. The Open House & Curriculum Overview is NOT a “floating” event, so you will want to arrive on time. We will have some ACS “swag” for sale, in addition to information about ordering ACS apparel.


Open House Dates/Times for 2023-24 School Year:

THURSDAY, AUGUST 3

  • Kindergarten - 10:00-10:45 & 11:00-11:45 (Times will be assigned based on student’s last name)

  • 1st Grade - 12:00-12:45

  • 2nd Grade - 1:00-1:45

  • 3rd Grade - 2:00-2:45

  • 4th Grade - 3:00-3:45

  • 5th and 6th Grade - 4:00-4:45 The first day of school for ALL 1st - 6th grade students is Tuesday, August 8 from 8:15 - 3:15.

 

NOW HIRING FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR - TEACHERS, SUBSTITUTES, & PART-TIME INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS

  • ACS is hiring teachers, substitute teachers, and part-time instructional assistants for the 2023-2024 school year.

NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR 23/24 SCHOOL YEAR

 

NEW FORMS NEEDED FOR 2023-24: STUDENT HEALTH ACTION PLANS & MEDICATION AUTHORIZATIONS

  • If your student has (or will need) a school Health or Action Plan please make sure to have the plan updated and ready to turn in at the start of next school year. Even if your student had a plan for the 2022-2023 school year, a new plan must be reviewed and authorized by the student’s healthcare provider and submitted to ACS for the 2023-2024 school year. There are a few frequently-used health plan and action plan forms available on the Documents and Forms page of the ACS website and linked below. Health plans should be submitted to the front office when students return to school in August.

  • Students requiring medication administration at school, including the use of inhalers and EpiPens, must also have a Medication Authorization Form completed by their healthcare provider on file for each new school year. These completed forms should be submitted to the front office prior to the student needing to receive medication at school. Please find the link for the ACS Medication Authorization Form below.

** Please note that Alamance Community School is not a part of the Alamance-Burlington School System and we cannot act upon a completed ABSS form.

GENESIS ATHLETICS NEWS

 

CLOTHES BIN

  • You may have noticed the large green Clothes Bin that is located just before our entrance beside Kronbergs Court. The bright green bin is our “go-to” for a convenient way to recycle our clothes, shoes and textiles. Every pound that is recycled via our bin supports ACS! So, Clothes Bin is a Green Initiative That Earns ACS “Green”.

  • Most of the clothes, shoes and textiles discarded in local landfills could have been recycled. So, grab a garbage bag, fill it with hope and drop it off at the ACS Clothes Bin and support our school.

Below are the items that you can recycle and place in the Clothes Bin:

  • Clothes such as pants, jeans, skirts, dresses, suits, shorts, shirts, tees, tanks

  • Outerwear such as coats, jackets, gloves, hats, scarves

  • Footwear such as shoes, boots, heels, sneakers, sandals, socks, tights

  • Undergarments such as bras, underwear, slips, camisoles

  • Accessories such as hats, belts, ties, scarves, headbands

  • Handbags, wallets, totes, luggage, backpacks, briefcases

  • Linens such as towels, sheets, comforters, blankets, tablecloths

 

2023 - 2024 SCHOOL CALENDAR

Please make note of:

  • Fall Break; Winter Break; & Spring Break and the Summer Break - Be sure you schedule any vacations/trips around the dates that school is not in session.

  • The First Day of School for Students is: August 8, 2023

  • The ACS 23-24 Calendar is available on the school website under Parents > School Calendar & Schedules
