Updated: 1 day ago

ree

Greetings, Coyote Families.

We were really rocking and rolling with all things school now! Thank you all for you patience as we navigate new process and grow as a school community. There will be just a few updates in the newsletters to come. For more information, make sure you view the attached previous newsletters below!

  • We are officially in Fundraiser Season. There are several unknowns when it comes to local, state, and federal funding. Our goal with the fundraiser season is to make sure the students ot ACS have everything they need to be successful and live up to the name…COMMUNITY! Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

  • We are SO excited to host home games this year. Our first home game is this Tuesday! We will get the ball rolling with Volleyball. Home games will be $5 entry per person, so save your cash 🙂. We will also have concessions at the games. Make sure you stay abreast of the calendar so you can show your support to our Coyotes! Let's work together to #DefendtheDen!

REMINDER: ATTENDANCE PROCESS IN NCSIS

Just a reminder: Our new NCSIS system handles attendance quite differently from PowerSchool: This is a statewide change in process and not unique to ACS!

  • Teachers can only mark students as absent or tardy—no specific reason is entered at that time.

  • All absences/tardies are initially processed as unexcused until reviewed by office staff.

  • Our team then updates codes based on review of KidAccount check-in/out logs and entries in the ACS Student Absence Form.

What parents need to do:

  • Always report absences using the ACS Student Absence Form, available on our website under Parents > Documents and Forms.

  • For your convenience, you can also optionally upload doctor/dentist notes through the form. Notes, help us determine that the absence or tardy is excused.

  • If an attendance error isn’t corrected within one week of the absence, contact Leslie Jewell, our Student Information Director.

For further information about ACS Attendance Policies, please first refer to the ACS Parent/Student Handbook found at www.alamancecommunityschool.net > Parents > Documents & Forms > Documents/Policies > 2025-26 Parent Student Handbook.Thank you for your grace and patience as we adjust to this new system and new workflows.

Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS)

ACS is happy to announce the district-wide launch of the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS). This program teaches students, teachers, and administrators how to recognize warning signals and threats, on social media, in school, or in their community, of individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others, and to Say Something to a trusted adult OR use its anonymous reporting system. ACS will train 5th-8th grade students beginning this week. Please click the following links for additional information regarding the program: Say Something Website & Say Something ARS - Program Overview for Parents or Caregivers

Protecting Our Students & Signs of Abuse

On September 1, 2021, Senate Bill 693 was signed into Session Law 2021-132, effective immediately. This Law requires all NC public schools to provide students in grades 6th to 12th with information and resources on child abuse and neglect, including sexual abuse.

Additionally, the Protecting Our Students Act (Session Law 2023-128/HB142requires that all students in grades 6th to 12th view the Protecting Our Students film.

In order to be in compliance with these Laws, School Counselor, Scott Tribotte and School Social Worker, Cindy Gittens will address the following information during classroom guidance lessons with 6th through 8th grade students: warning signs indicating that a child may be a victim of abuse or neglect, including age-appropriate information on sexual abuse; the telephone number used for reporting abuse and neglect to the department of social services in Alamance County; a statement that information reported shall be held in the strictest confidence, to the extent permitted by law; available resources. All students will be sent home

with the following handout (  Final Signs of Abuse Student Handout.p)dfthat outlines

everything that was discussed during the classroom lesson. Additionally, your child will view the “Protecting Our Students” film that was developed by the North Carolina Center for Safer Schools in partnership with Capitol Broadcasting Company. This film aims to help students understand what inappropriate behavior by an adult is and what it might look like if it is happening to them or someone they know; know how to practice healthy behaviors and skills to stay safe; identify a responsible adult who they could ask for help.

ACS Student Support

We recognize that discussions of this nature could be potentially triggering or emotionally challenging for some students. Please know that the information will be delivered in a safe environment, and our school counselor and school social worker will be available to support students and address any concerns that may arise. If you have questions or concerns regarding any of these programs, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school social worker, Cindy Gittens (cgittens@alamancecommunityschool.net) and/or our school counselor, Scott Tribotte (stribotte@alamancecommunityschool.net).

While everyone is invited to join, please be mindful of what is posted. The goal is increased information and positivity.

VOLUNTEERING

We have loved having so many volunteers in the classroom! Thank you for supporting our students and staff!

Volunteerism at our school is a way for you, parents and guardians, to learn more about ACS, engage positively with your child’s teachers, and witness firsthand the hard work and dedication that all our staff - teachers, assistants, support staff, and administrators demonstrate each day.

It is also a way to support your student and other students by assisting with workstations or a small group, helping with clerical tasks or lunch, and/or something as simple as reading a book to the class. You do not have to be an educator to volunteer, and everyone is welcome!  Please click on the ACS Volunteer Form Link below to find ways that you can volunteer to help support our school!  https://forms.gle/6iPiTAYNhm14BezV6
