Dear New & Returning ACS Families,
First, we are so excited to see you at school tomorrow!
We will have 520 students attending ACS this year. Out of the 520 students, almost 175 of them are new to ACS. They include approximately 100 Kindergarteners and 75 new students in 1st - 5th Grade.
RETURNING 1ST - 5TH GRADERS - USE THE CARLINE TO DROP-OFF
Tomorrow, 75 of our 1st - 5th graders will be attending a new school and many of our new families may need assistance and their students may need to be walked into the school. Therefore, if you have a RETURNING 1st - 5th grader, please use the carline between 7:45 - 8:10 to drop off your student, so that we are free in the front to help our new families.
NEW 1ST - 5TH GRADERS
If you are dropping off a NEW student in 1st - 5th grade, you can use the carline between 7:45 - 8:10 to drop off your student or you can park and check-in at one of the registration tables located at the front of the building on the sidewalk. After you check in, someone will guide you and your student to their classroom.
SCHOOL SUPPLY DROP-OFF IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT
If you are using the carline and have classroom supplies that your student cannot carry alone (we do not want to slow down the carline), please pull around into the parking lot and on the sidewalk at the front near the handicapped spaces, there will be tables where you can drop off and label the supplies that will be delivered to your child’s classroom (we will have all the materials needed to label them, if needed).
PICK-UP YOUR FREE & REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS AT ONE OF THE TABLES LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING
**Please be mindful that it will take approximately 2 weeks to review and process your application from the time you submit it to the Front Office.**
If you plan to apply for ACS Free and Reduced Price School Meals, you must:
Physically pick up an ACS Household Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals. We will have your family's application with the very detailed directions in an envelope labeled specifically for your family at one of the registration tables located at the front of the building on the sidewalk. If we cannot find your envelope, we will have extra blank applications printed.
Even if you anticipate that your student will be participating in our Free or Reduced Lunch program, you will need to provide lunch for your student until your application is reviewed and you receive a confirmation regarding eligibility and the date your student/s free or reduced lunch will begin. You can either send a packed lunch from home or you can order from MyHotLunchbox (see information below)
KINDERGARTEN STAGGERED START
ACS Kindergartners will begin the school year with a staggered start and an abbreviated day, so that the students can get accustomed to their new school, teachers, and schedule. Please do not arrive before 8:45 to drop off your student so that we can get all the new 1st - 5th grade students to their classrooms.
If you are dropping off your Kindergartener for their staggered start day, you can use the carline or you can park and check-in at one of the front registration tables. After you check in, someone will guide you and your student to their Kindergarten classroom.
From 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM, a fourth of the kindergarten students from each class will come to school each day on Tuesday, August 9, Wednesday, August 10, Thursday, August 11, & Friday, August 12.
The school has assigned the day your kindergartener will attend for their staggered start day. This information was sent to you via email. If you are a Kindergarten parent and have not received this information, please contact: frontdesk@alamancecommunityschool.net
All kindergarteners will have their first FULL day of school on Monday, August 15 from 8:15 AM - 3:15 PM.
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL
If you were unable to attend or did not receive your carline signs at Open House, we’ve got you covered. Some families received an email with their child’s carline number today. You may use that information to make your own sign until the school is able to send two printed ones home for you. If you do not know your child’s carline number, please tell the carline staff your child’s name and teacher’s name at pickup. We will then get your child safely to you. Thank you for your patience and understanding during afternoon dismissal.
