Laura Shumate

Speech-Language Pathologist

Laura is excited to partner with ACS this school year to provide speech therapy services through her private practice, Stars Align Therapy. Laura is an alumna of UNC-Greensboro and Western Carolina University where she studied Speech-Language Pathology. Laura has been practicing speech therapy since 2019. She provides services to children and young adults and has spent time in different areas of the state helping children reach their communication goals. Laura's therapy philosophy focuses on acknowledging each student's unique strengths and providing support for areas of need. She lives for the moments where things "click." Laura's goal is always to find the right supports and strategies that increase a student's independence so they can celebrate their win! She is especially passionate about working with Autistic clients and children that use speech generating devices to talk. Other areas of interest include literacy skills and speech sound/articulation disorders.

Laura is an NC native and her practice is based in Mebane, NC. When she isn't working with students, she enjoys beach time, hiking, yoga, reading, and volunteering in the community.
